Chicago's Wild First Inning Sets the Tone
The Tigers came into Guaranteed Rate Field after losing 3-4 the night before. They needed a win badly. Their record sat at 22-37, and they were riding a three-game losing streak. But the White Sox had other plans. Right away, Detroit's pitcher Framber Valdez threw a wild pitch that got away from him in the first inning. Chase Meidroth scored on the wild toss. Colson Montgomery moved to second base. Miguel Vargas got to third. Then Edgar Quero stepped up and smacked a sacrifice fly to center field. Vargas raced home. Just like that, Chicago led 2-0 before the Tigers could even blink. The White Sox were flying out of the gates.
Perez Homers but White Sox Keep Pulling Away
Detroit fought back in the third inning when Wenceel Perez launched a four-seam fastball over the left-center wall. The ball sailed 386 feet and made the score 1-2. The Tigers had some life! But Chicago's bats stayed hot. In the seventh inning, Edgar Quero crushed a curveball deep to left field for his own home run. That made it 1-3. Then Rikuu Nishida singled to right, and Andrew Benintendi scored on the hit. Chicago led 1-4 now. The White Sox were in complete control. Detroit's pitching couldn't keep them in the game. Every time the Tigers got close, Chicago answered back with more runs.
White Sox Crush Tigers Late to Seal Big Victory
The eighth inning buried the Tigers. Colson Montgomery smashed a fastball to right-center for a two-run homer that made it 1-5. The ball flew 372 feet. Then Andrew Benintendi stepped in with two outs and crushed his own shot to right. That blast traveled 368 feet and brought Quero home. Final score: Chicago 7, Detroit 1. The White Sox improved to 31-27 with their fourth straight win. Detroit fell to 22-37 with another loss. Anthony Kay earned the win for Chicago, holding Detroit to just one run over five innings. The Tigers' pitching staff couldn't stop the White Sox lineup. This game showed why Chicago was hot right now.
