Tigers Jump Out Hard in Houston
The Detroit Tigers showed up in Houston with something to prove. After winning their last game, they were riding confidence into this matchup at the Astros' ballpark. The Astros had lost two straight and their pitcher Kai-Wei Teng looked shaky from the start. In the first inning, Kevin McGonigle's teammates scored when Keith got hit by a pitch. Then in the second, McGonigle crushed a sinker 383 feet to right field. You could feel the Tigers taking control. The third inning became a nightmare for Houston. Colt Keith smashed a 411-foot bomb to right-center. Spencer Torkelson followed with his own home run to left. The Tigers scored five runs before Houston even blinked. The Astros tried fighting back when Isaac Paredes and Jose Altuve went deep, but Detroit was already rolling too strong.
The Tigers Keep Piling It On
Detroit's offense would not stop. In the third inning, the Tiger bats were absolutely on fire. After McGonigle and Keith went deep, Torkelson stepped up and launched a 372-foot home run to left field. The score was already 5-0 before Houston could catch its breath. The Astros got two runs back when Isaac Paredes sent one over the wall, and then Jose Altuve followed with his own blast. That made it 5-3, but Detroit had way too much already in the bank. Later in the fifth inning, another run scored when a passed ball got away from the Astros' catcher. The seventh inning brought more pain for Houston. Colt Keith stepped up again and sent another ball flying to right field. Dingler scored on that play too. The Tigers just kept hitting.
Keith Seals It With Another Blast
The ninth inning saw the final dramatic moment of this game. Colt Keith stepped up one more time and crushed his fourth home run of the night. The ball sailed 347 feet to left field. That made the final score 9-3 Detroit. What a performance from Keith! He finished with three hits in four at-bats and drove in six runs. The Tigers walked out of Houston with a huge victory and improved to 31-42 on the season. Houston fell to 33-41 and stayed stuck in their struggles. Detroit's pitching staff held things together after some early moments, with Kyle Finnegan picking up the win. The Tigers' offense simply overpowered the Astros. Sometimes in baseball, one team just brings too much power to the ballpark and that was Detroit today.
