Houston Bounces Back After Tigers' Big Win
The Astros were hungry for payback. One night earlier, Detroit had stomped Houston 9-3 at Minute Maid Park. The Tigers' bats were on fire—they pounded out four home runs in that game. But tonight was different. Tonight, Houston was ready to fight back. The Astros had won their last two games and were riding some momentum. Detroit came in with a 30-44 record and had lost two straight. Houston was 35-41 but believed they could turn things around at home. The final score: Houston 4, Detroit 2. The Astros clawed their way back into the series with gritty baseball and timely hitting when it mattered most.
Lee's Single Gives Detroit Early Edge
Hao-Yu Lee stepped up to the plate in the second inning with Hunter Brown on the mound for Houston. Brown's fastball came in hard, but Lee was ready. He smacked a single into left field. That was all Detroit needed in the moment. Spencer Torkelson raced home to score. Suddenly, the Tigers led 1-0. Houston's pitching staff was strong, but Brown couldn't keep Detroit off the board early. The momentum from that first scoring play pushed the Tigers forward. However, Houston wasn't going to roll over. The Astros answered back in the fifth inning when a passed ball by Detroit catcher Dillon Dingler became costly. Raynel Delgado scored on the play, and the Astros tied it at 1-1.
Astros Finish Strong for Series-Tying Win
The eighth inning turned everything around for Houston. With the score tied at 1-1, Dillon Dingler stepped to the plate for Detroit. He hit a sacrifice fly to center field. That meant Hao-Yu Lee could score from third base. Detroit took a 2-1 lead. But Houston wasn't finished. Will Vest pitched for the Tigers, and the Astros launched their attack. Raynel Delgado smacked a single into center field. Both Yainer Diaz and Cam Smith came racing home. Houston led 3-2. The crowd at Minute Maid Park was on its feet. Jeremy Peña added another run when he grounded into a fielder's choice. The final run crossed. Houston 4, Detroit 2. The Astros had clawed back. The series was all even.
