Tigers Start Strong but Mets Strike Back Hard
The Detroit Tigers traveled to New York hoping their powerful pitching staff could shut down the Mets. Jack Flaherty took the mound for Detroit, while Freddy Peralta started for the home team. The Tigers came out swinging early, with Dingler crushing a curveball over the left field wall for a home run. His swing generated 102 miles per hour of exit velocity, sending the ball 369 feet into the stands. Torkelson followed up with a sacrifice fly, scoring another run. Detroit built a 2-0 lead, but the Mets answered quickly. Alvarez hit into a fielder's choice that scored Melendez, making it 2-1. Vientos singled to right to tie the game. The Mets' offense was waking up, and the early advantage disappeared fast.
Mets Explode in Sixth and Seventh Innings
The game stayed close until the sixth inning, when the Mets erupted. Benge singled in Alvarez to give New York a 3-2 lead in the fourth. Then came the big sixth inning. Bichette hit into a fielder's choice that produced an error, scoring two runs and giving the Mets a 5-2 advantage. Soto added another run with a groundout, stretching it to 6-2. The seventh inning brought more Mets magic. Ewing tripled to right, scoring Baty, then Torrens singled to make it 8-2. Detroit's pitching couldn't contain New York's offense anymore. The Tigers managed only two runs all game while the Mets kept adding on. By the eighth inning, New York had seized complete control of this matchup.
Mets Dominate Late to Clinch Convincing Victory
The New York Mets finished off the Detroit Tigers with a dominant eighth inning. Fielding errors helped New York score another run when Soto crossed the plate. Then Ewing walked with the bases loaded, scoring Vientos and making it 10-2. That tenth run sealed the game. The Mets cruised to a 10-2 victory in dominant fashion. For Detroit, this loss dropped them to 19-23 on the season despite their talented pitching staff. The Tigers suffered from their own mistakes and couldn't generate enough offense to keep pace. Francisco Alvarez and the Mets' bats proved too powerful to handle. Meanwhile, New York improved to 16-25, showing signs of improvement. The Mets' rotation with Freddy Peralta and their offensive depth delivered when it mattered most.
