Astros Strike Fast in First Inning
The Houston Astros came to Baltimore ready to put on a hitting clinic. From the very first pitch, they were on fire. Harris singled to right, driving in two runs with one swing. Then Smith launched a massive home run into center field that traveled 414 feet and scored two more runners. The ball soared high over the wall, and the crowd watched in amazement. Just like that, Houston led 5-0 before the Orioles recorded a single out. Alvarez added another home run in the second inning, blasting a 424-foot shot to center. The Astros' lineup was clicking from the opening moment, and Baltimore's pitchers struggled to find their rhythm early.
Houston Explodes in Fourth Inning
The Astros weren't done yet. In the fourth inning, they mounted a devastating offensive attack against Baltimore's pitching. Paredes singled to right, bringing home Johnson for another run. Walker followed with his own single, scoring Matthews. Harris then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that drove in Alvarez. Diaz capped off the inning with a single to left, scoring Paredes. Before the Orioles could catch their breath, Houston had added five more runs and led 10-0. Meanwhile, the Orioles managed to score one run in the bottom of the fourth when Alonso doubled and Taveras ripped a triple to right. However, the deficit was simply too large for Baltimore to overcome.
Astros Hold On for Commanding Victory
Houston's early dominance held up through the rest of the game. In the fifth inning, a wild pitch by Foster allowed Shewmake to score, extending Houston's lead to 11-3. The Orioles kept fighting, though. Henderson doubled to right in the seventh inning, scoring Taveras and making it 11-4. In the ninth inning, Mayo hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Cowser, narrowing the gap to 11-5. But it wasn't enough. The Astros won the game convincingly, 11-5, showcasing their explosive offense and resilience. This victory was significant for Houston, as they're navigating a new pitching era without longtime ace Framber Valdez. Despite injuries affecting their roster, the Astros proved they could compete at baseball's highest level.
