Game setup, teams, final score
The Rockies hosted the Astros at Coors Field on Tuesday, April 7. Both teams wanted a road win or a home boost, and the crowd waited to see big plays. The final score was Colorado 9, Houston 7, after a wild middle inning changed everything. The Astros scored early and looked sharp, but the Rockies answered with a huge rally in the fifth. This game mattered because the Astros were trying to steady a new rotation and the Rockies wanted to win at home. The story moved fast, with big hits, long balls, and clutch singles in key moments.
Early scoring, Astros lead, key hits
Houston struck first in the top of the first inning with two runs. Carlos Correa doubled to right and José Altuve scored on that play. Later in the inning, Walker singled and Correa crossed the plate. Houston added a solo homer in the fourth when Smith sent the ball soaring over center for a 462-foot blast. Those early runs gave the Astros a 3–0 lead and momentum, although Colorado kept fighting. Pitchers battled and hitters looked for openings, but the big story was the Rockies building toward a huge fifth inning that would flip the game.
Big fifth inning, late comeback, final play
The turning point came in the bottom of the fifth when Colorado scored eight runs. Julien started the rally with a single that scored two runs and left runners moving. Goodman then singled to tie the game at 3–3, and Johnston doubled to give Colorado the lead. Rumfield tripled home two more runs and the Rockies kept scoring until they led 8–3. Later Johnston added a homer to make it 9–4. Houston fought back with runs in the seventh and eighth, but Colorado held on to win 9–7. This result left Colorado with a win and the Astros with a tough loss.
