Astros Strike First Against Tigers
The Houston Astros rolled into Detroit looking to keep their winning streak alive. They'd beaten the Tigers 8-6 the night before and wanted more. The Tigers needed a big day to stop Houston's momentum. Both teams had players sidelined — the Astros were without Cam Smith due to a sore foot, and Detroit was missing several key players. Hunter Brown took the mound for Houston, ready to anchor the pitching staff. But the Tigers came out swinging hard. In the second inning, Zach McKinstry crushed a Hunter Brown fastball deep to right center. The ball rocketed 386 feet over the wall. Kerry Carpenter came home with him. Detroit grabbed a quick 2-0 lead and the crowd roared. Houston needed to answer back fast.
Houston Finds Its Power Stroke
The Astros fought back hard. Hunter Brown settled down after that rough second inning and started striking out Tigers batters. But in the fifth inning, the Tigers got another run when Riley Greene reached first base safely on an error by Raynel Delgado. Kevin McGonigle scored and Detroit led 3-0. Houston wasn't done yet. In the seventh inning, Raynel Delgado stepped up and crushed a Tyler Holton fastball over the right field wall. Jake Meyers raced home with him. The Astros cut it to 3-2. One inning later, Isaac Paredes smashed a Kyle Finnegan fastball deep into left field. The ball sailed 402 feet — a solo shot that tied the game 3-3. Houston's bats were heating up at exactly the right moment.
Astros Explode Late for Victory
The game went to extra innings at 3-3. In the tenth inning, everything changed for Houston. Isaac Paredes stepped up again and singled sharply to right, driving home Jeremy Peña. Yordan Alvarez moved to second base. Houston led 4-3. Then Christian Walker strode to the plate against Kenley Jansen. Walker unleashed a powerful swing on a 93-mile-per-hour cutter. The ball soared deep to left field, traveling 394 feet. Alvarez and Paredes both sprinted home. Houston suddenly led 7-3. Detroit tried to answer in the bottom of the tenth. Spencer Torkelson cranked a 379-foot blast to right center, scoring Riley Greene. But it wasn't enough. The Astros held on for a 7-5 win, improving to 43-44. Houston won its third straight game and took control of the series.
