Astros Strike Hard Early in Toronto
The Houston Astros rolled into Rogers Centre in Toronto with a chance to bounce back. They had lost the night before, falling 4-2 to the Blue Jays. But Tuesday's game told a completely different story. The Astros came out swinging and lit up Blue Jays starter Shane Bieber right away. In the first inning, Isaac Paredes smacked an 88-mph cutter to center field for a single, and Jose Altuve raced home. Houston led 1-0 before the Blue Jays even stepped up to bat. The Astros had momentum and they weren't about to give it back.
Four Straight Homers Blow the Game Wide Open
The fourth inning was pure magic for Houston. Yainer Diaz stepped up and crushed a pitch 391 feet over the left-field wall. Two pitches later, Cam Smith launched a monster blast that soared 436 feet to center field. Before the Blue Jays could catch their breath, Taylor Trammell connected on an 91-mph fastball and sent it flying 421 feet to right. Three homers in one inning! Houston suddenly led 4-0 and Bieber was in trouble. Toronto wouldn't go quietly, though. Luis Urias answered back with his own homer, a 363-footer to left, bringing Daulton Varsho home as well. The score was now 4-2, but the Astros had established control.
Toronto Storms Back, But Houston Wins in Eleven
The seventh and eighth innings saw Toronto claw back. Daulton Varsho smashed a 395-foot homer to right that scored Kazuma Okamoto. The Blue Jays had cut it to 4-4. Then in the eighth, Okamoto ripped a single to left that scored both George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Suddenly Toronto led 6-4 and looked ready to steal the game. But the Astros weren't done. In the ninth, a catcher's interference call put runners in scoring position. Cam Smith lifted a sacrifice fly that tied everything at 6-6. The game went to the eleventh inning. Joey Loperfido stepped up and crushed a three-run homer to right field. Houston won 9-7. The Astros improved to 38-43 while Toronto fell to 39-40.
