Kansas City Strikes First as Byron Buxton Answers Back
The Royals came to Minnesota ready to fight. After winning their last two games, Kansas City had momentum on their side. But the Twins were hungry too, sitting at home in Target Field. Salvador Perez got Kansas City rolling in the first inning with a sacrifice fly that sent Bobby Witt Jr. racing home. One-nothing Royals. Then Byron Buxton stepped into the box for Minnesota. He swung at a 92-mph sinker and launched it deep to center field. The ball sailed 430 feet and landed in the stands. Tie game, one-one. Both teams wanted this win badly. The tension was building from the opening pitch.
Twins Power Show Takes Control: Clemens Crushes Two Homers
The game exploded in the fourth and fifth innings. Michael Massey launched a 360-foot rocket to right field for Kansas City, tying things at three-three. Then Minnesota's bats woke up. Kody Clemens ripped a 414-foot home run to center in the third inning. Two innings later, Clemens stepped up again. This time he crushed a 379-foot blast to right. The Twins were everywhere. Victor Caratini doubled to center, then later smashed a solo shot to right field. Ryan Kreidler tripled to center, driving in another run. Minnesota's lineup was on fire. Every swing seemed to travel miles. The Twins grabbed the lead and refused to let go.
Royals Rally Late: Two-Run Error Seals Kansas City Victory Eight-Six
Kansas City would not go away quietly. In the sixth inning, Carter Jensen doubled to left, scoring both Isaac Collins and Kyle Isbel. Then Bobby Witt Jr. hit a grounder. The ball bounced to shortstop, but Ryan Kreidler made an error. Two more Royals raced home. Suddenly Kansas City led five-three. Victor Caratini tied it with a solo home run for Minnesota. The game stayed deadlocked. In the ninth inning, Josh Rojas delivered the game-winner. He singled to center, and both Lane Thomas and a pinch hitter scored on the play. Final score: Kansas City eight, Minnesota six. The Royals improved to twenty-five and thirty-eight. Minnesota fell to twenty-nine and thirty-five. Kansas City's winning streak grew to two games.
