Royals Strike First in Target Field Showdown
The Royals rolled into Minnesota's Target Field ready to fight back after losing the night before 8-6. Kansas City came in sitting at 26-39, while the Twins were 30-36. Both teams needed a win badly. Right away, the Royals showed up swinging. Vinnie Pasquantino stepped up to face Twins starter Zebby Matthews and smacked an 85 mph changeup into right field. That double scored Bobby Witt Jr. from first base. The ball screamed across the grass, and suddenly Kansas City led 1-0. Things got better fast. Jac Caglianone came up next and also doubled down the middle. Pasquantino sprinted home, making it 2-0. The Royals' bats were loud and hungry from the opening pitch.
Lee Blast Launches Twins Comeback in Sixth
The Twins were down 2-0 but they didn't panic. Brooks Lee stepped in during the sixth inning and launched a rocket. The ball sailed 380 feet over the right field wall. Lee's solo homer made it 2-1 and got the home crowd fired up. One swing, and Minnesota was back in it. Josh Bell followed and doubled to left, bringing in Kody Clemens. The score was now 2-2. Orlando Arcia singled to right, and Bell raced home. Then a throwing error by Caglianone let Arcia dash to second. A wild pitch from Royals pitcher Michael Wacha sailed over the catcher, and Arcia sprinted across the plate for the go-ahead run. The Twins had scored four runs in one inning. Suddenly it was 2-5 Minnesota.
Royals Refuse to Quit, But Twins Hold On
Down 2-5 heading into the ninth, the Royals showed grit and refused to go quietly. Maikel Garcia stepped up with two outs and grounded out to shortstop. The ball was hit hard, but it found a glove. As Garcia ran, Caglianone raced home from third, cutting it to 3-5. Kansas City fought but couldn't push across the extra runs they needed. The Twins' bullpen held firm as Travis Adams earned the save. The final score read Minnesota 5, Kansas City 3. With this win, the Twins improved to 30-37, staying in the hunt. The Royals fell to 26-40, their struggles continuing. Michael Wacha took the loss for Kansas City, giving up four earned runs in five and two-thirds innings.
