Kansas City Strikes First at Target Field
The Royals came into Minnesota looking to build on their win the night before. The Twins hosted them at Target Field in Minneapolis, hungry to bounce back after losing 8-6 on Wednesday. You could feel the tension in the air as the game started. Carter Jensen stepped up to the plate in the first inning and didn't waste time. He crushed a fastball from Joe Ryan deep to right field. The ball sailed over the wall — boom — and the Royals led 1-0 before most fans had settled into their seats. Jensen's 384-foot blast set the tone for what would become a tight battle between these two teams.
Minnesota Ties It Up in the Fifth
The Twins stayed calm after falling behind early. They knew they had time to catch up. In the fifth inning, Luinder Avila took the mound for Kansas City. The Twins put pressure on him immediately. Austin Martin raced around the bases and slid into home plate as Tristan Gray lifted a sacrifice fly to center field. The ball floated up and out, and Martin tagged up and scored easily. Now it was 1-1, and the game felt brand new. Both teams refused to give an inch. The pitching on both sides was sharp and focused. Every pitch mattered. Every at-bat could change everything.
Royals Rally Late to Escape with Victory
The game stayed tight through seven innings. Both teams battled hard, but no one could pull away. Then the eighth inning arrived and Orlando Arcia stepped up for the Twins. He swung hard at a fastball from Matt Strahm and connected. The ball rocketed to left field and cleared the wall. Arcia raced around the bases and the Twins led 2-1. Minnesota thought they had it won. But the Royals weren't done fighting. In the ninth inning, Carter Jensen smashed a sacrifice fly to right field. One run scored and it was 2-2. Then Bobby Witt Jr. came through with a single to left. Josh Rojas sprinted home and the Royals won 3-2. Kansas City improved to 26-39 while Minnesota dropped to 30-36.
