Game setup, location, final score
The Cincinnati Reds hosted the Los Angeles Angels at their ballpark on Saturday, April 11. Cincinnati wanted to build on a strong offense, while the Angels hoped pitching answers would show up. The final score was Cincinnati 7, Los Angeles 3, and the game tilted early toward the Reds. During the first inning the Reds exploded for four runs, which set the tone for the day. Although the Angels battled back with a two-run fourth, the early damage proved costly. As a result, Cincinnati controlled the game most of the way and left the Angels with questions about pitching.
Early scoring and key plays
The game opened with a big first inning for Cincinnati. Brandon Stewart reached on an infield single, and Jonathan India’s run scored that started the rally. A few batters later, Lowe doubled to right and drove in three more runs, making it 4–0 in the bottom of the first. During the second inning, Steer hit a towering home run to left, a 383-foot blast that pushed the lead to 5–0. Meanwhile, Angels pitching struggled early because the Reds were patient and aggressive at the plate. The early offense gave Cincinnati a comfortable cushion they would hold for most of the game.
Comeback attempt, late scoring, meaning
The Angels answered with runs in the third and fourth innings. Schanuel grounded out but scored a run in the third, and Mike Trout doubled in two runs during the fourth. Those hits made the score 5–3 and showed the Angels’ offense could fight back. However, in the eighth inning Cincinnati added two more runs after wild pitches forced in runs and a walk with bases loaded made it 7–3. As a result, the Reds sealed the win and improved their record to 9–6 while the Angels fell to 7–8. This game leaves the Angels still searching for pitching stability.
