Angels and Guardians Battle on May 13
The Los Angeles Angels traveled to Cleveland to face the Guardians on Wednesday, May 13, during week 59 of the 2025 season. Coming into the game, the Angels were struggling with a 16-28 record and had lost their last three games, including a tough 3-2 loss the day before. Meanwhile, the Guardians sat at 24-21 and were riding a three-game winning streak at home. Reid Detmers took the mound for Los Angeles while Parker Messick started for Cleveland. The Guardians dominated early, striking first with two runs in the opening inning. However, the Angels weren't ready to quit, and the stage was set for an exciting matchup between two competitive pitching staffs.
Big Bats Wake Up: Martínez, Neto Drive Action
Cleveland's Martínez stepped up first, smashing a slider from Detmers over the left field wall for a home run in the first inning. The ball traveled 378 feet with an exit velocity of 106 mph, giving the Guardians a 1-0 lead right away. Fry then grounded out but drove in another run, extending Cleveland's lead to 2-0. Later in the third inning, DeLauter added another run with a sacrifice fly to center field, pushing the score to 3-0. The Angels weren't going down without a fight. In the fifth inning, Neto launched a two-run homer that cut Cleveland's lead significantly. Although the Guardians were still ahead, Neto's powerful blast with an exit velocity of 108 mph showed the Angels had life left.
Guardians Close Out Angels in Dramatic Finish
The sixth inning brought more excitement when Schneemann singled to center field, scoring Hoskins and extending Cleveland's advantage to 4-2. The Angels couldn't generate any more offense after that crucial moment. In the ninth inning, the Guardians erupted with four more runs, essentially putting the game out of reach. When the final out was recorded, Cleveland had claimed a decisive 7-2 victory. The loss dropped Los Angeles to 16-28, while Cleveland improved to 24-21 and stayed hot with their fourth consecutive win. This game showcased the strength of Cleveland's pitching and timely hitting, while the Angels showed resilience but ultimately fell short despite Neto's home run effort.
