Angels Strike First Against the Tigers
The Los Angeles Angels arrived in Detroit looking to keep their winning streak alive. They came into the game 21-34 on the season, while the Tigers sat 21-34 at home. The Angels were without star pitcher Yusei Kikuchi, sidelined by shoulder troubles. Detroit was also missing some key players, but the Tigers were hungry to bounce back. The game unfolded as a slugfest. Early on, the Tigers managed to score first in the second inning when Zach McKinstry lifted a sacrifice fly that brought in Colt Keith. But the Angels answered fast. In the third inning, Vaughn Grissom singled sharply up the middle. The ball cut through the grass and zipped past the infielders. Both Zach Neto and Logan O'Hoppe raced home. The Angels took the lead 2-1 and started to build momentum.
Bats Come Alive in the Fourth and Fifth
In the fourth inning, Jo Adell stepped to the plate and unleashed something special. He cranked a fastball deep to left field. The ball sailed through the air like a rocket and cleared the wall. His home run soared 407 feet and put the Angels up 3-1. Then Zach Neto drove a double down the left field line, and Donovan Walton scored. The Angels now led 4-1. But Detroit wasn't done. In the fifth inning, Kevin McGonigle ripped a triple to right field. Wenceel Perez and Matt Vierling both came racing around the bases to score. Jahmai Jones followed with a sharp single that brought McGonigle home. The Tigers were back in the fight. Perez then connected for a solo home run that made it 4-6 Angels. The bats on both sides were absolutely buzzing.
Grissom's Grand Slam Seals Angels Victory
The eighth inning is when the game exploded. Logan O'Hoppe doubled down the right field line with two outs. Then Vaughn Grissom walked to the plate with the bases loaded. He faced a 95-mile-per-hour fastball and launched it into the right-center gap. The ball rocketed off his bat and cleared the wall. A grand slam. The crowd went silent. O'Hoppe scored, along with Neto and Mike Trout. Four runs in one swing gave the Angels a 9-6 lead they wouldn't give back. In the ninth inning, Jose Siri added another home run to make it 10-6 final. The Angels improved to 22-34 with the road victory. The Tigers fell to 21-35 at home and dropped their second straight game.
