Tucker and Freeman Start the Rout Early
The Dodgers walked into Phoenix's Chase Field hungry for another win. Arizona had knocked them off the night before 5-4 in a close battle, but Los Angeles wasn't about to roll over. Shohei Ohtani took the mound as the starter, and he looked sharp from pitch one. The Diamondbacks' bats went quiet fast. In the second inning, Kyle Tucker stepped up against Zac Gallen and crushed a 94-mile-per-hour fastball deep to right center. The ball rocketed 424 feet into the sky—a two-run bomb that made Mookie Betts score ahead of him. Two batters later, Freddie Freeman lined a single to left that scored Ohtani and Andy Pages. The Dodgers poured it on, and Max Muncy followed with his own single up the middle to drive Freeman home. Just like that, the Dodgers led 5-0 before Arizona could blink.
Ohtani Shuts Down Arizona's Bats
Shohei Ohtani was untouchable on the mound. The superstar pitcher threw six innings and gave up just two hits while striking out six batters. Arizona's lineup—led by star speedster Corbin Carroll—couldn't catch up to Ohtani's stuff. The Diamondbacks swung and missed over and over. They managed only one walk against him. Meanwhile, the Dodgers kept adding runs. In the seventh inning, Alex Freeland stepped in against Brandon Pfaadt with two outs and the bases alive with runners. He smashed a single into center field that brought Max Muncy and Will Smith across the plate. Now the score sat at 7-0. It was looking like a total shutout in the making. Arizona's pitchers cycled through the rotation trying to stop the bleeding, but nothing worked. The Dodgers' bats were just too much tonight.
Dodgers Complete a Dominant Shutout Victory
The final score was Los Angeles 7, Arizona 0. It was a complete shutout. Ohtani's pitching combined with the Dodgers' powerful bats created a perfect storm for Phoenix. Jonathan Hernandez and Jack Dreyer came on in relief and kept Arizona scoreless too. The Diamondbacks managed just four hits all game. Geraldo Perdomo, Gabriel Moreno, and a couple others scratched out singles, but they could never piece together anything that threatened. Nolan Arenado struck out twice. Corbin Carroll went hitless. The Dodgers improved to 40-23, staying strong in their push toward another championship. Arizona fell to 33-29 after the loss. For Los Angeles, this shutout was sweet revenge after losing 5-4 the night before. The Dodgers' pitching and power proved too strong. This team has the talent to win big games like this.
