Betts Homers as Dodgers Strike First
The Dodgers rolled into Minnesota with a 51-29 record and hungry for another win. The Twins sat at 38-43 after losing big the night before, 12-3. This was the final game of the series at Target Field. Joe Ryan took the mound for Minnesota, looking to keep his team close. Mookie Betts stepped up in the second inning and didn't waste time. He connected on a 94 mph fastball and launched it deep to left center. The ball sailed 399 feet and cleared the wall. One-zip Dodgers. The crowd at Target Field went quiet. Betts rounded the bases with his arms up, pumping his fist. The Twins needed an answer, and they needed it fast.
Twins Score on Wild Pitch, Dodgers Respond
The Twins fought back in the second inning. Shohei Ohtani was pitching for the Dodgers and threw a fastball to Ryan Kreidler. Things got messy fast. A passed ball by catcher Dalton Rushing allowed Victor Caratini to score and put runners in scoring position. The Twins tied it 1-1 in seconds. Then Kreidler hit a single up the middle. Lee and Gray both scored on the play. The Twins took the lead 3-1. But Los Angeles answered right back in the third. Ohtani singled to center, and Freeland scored. Then Max Muncy slapped a single to right, scoring Ohtani. The game was tied 3-3. Alex Call hit a sacrifice fly to right, and Freeman came home. Dodgers led 4-3. Both teams were swinging hard and trading runs.
Dodgers Hold Tight for Final Victory
The score stayed 4-3 for the rest of the game. Both teams had chances to score more, but pitchers stepped up when they needed to. Ohtani pitched six innings for the Dodgers and struck out eight Twins batters. He allowed five hits but kept Minnesota off the board after that second inning. In the bullpen, Kyle Hurt, Alex Vesia, and Tanner Scott all came through. Scott threw the final inning and closed out the win. The Dodgers improved to 51-29 and stayed hot. The Twins fell to 38-43. It was a tight, tense finish. The Dodgers showed their pitching depth was just as strong as their hitting. Scott got the save. One game, two teams fighting hard, and the better team walked away.
