Marlins Strike First Behind Jimenez Double
The Miami Marlins came to Denver hungry for a win. They'd just beaten their last opponent and wanted to keep rolling. Colorado's Rockies sat at 33-52, struggling all season long. The Marlins? They were 45-40 and climbing. The weather was warm. The stadium was full. Sean Sullivan took the mound for Colorado in the second inning. Leo Jimenez stepped up with runners on base. Sullivan threw an 86-mile-per-hour fastball right down the middle. Jimenez ripped it into center field. The ball blazed past the outfielders. Kyle Stowers and Heriberto Hernandez both raced home. Miami led 2-0. The Rockies answered back fast. Ezequiel Tovar lifted a sacrifice fly to left. One run scored. Then Jake McCarthy doubled down the line. Two more runs crossed the plate. Just like that, Colorado grabbed a 3-2 lead. The game was already wild.
Massive Homers Give Marlins the Lead
The game kept moving. Both teams swung hard and fought for every run. In the third inning, Kyle Karros of Colorado smashed a double to left. Two more Rockies runners scored. The game was tied at 5-5. Then came the fifth inning. This is when the Marlins took over. Otto Lopez stepped in the batter's box. Sullivan threw a pitch. Lopez crushed it to right-center field. The ball sailed 394 feet into the bleachers. Miami led 6-5. But wait—there's more. Griffin Conine came up next for Miami. Victor Vodnik was now pitching for Colorado. Conine connected on a massive 433-foot blast to right field. Edwards and Stowers both scored on the blast. Miami now led 9-5. The Marlins were rolling. Their bats were alive. Colorado couldn't keep up.
Sanoja Triple Seals Miami's Victory
The seventh inning was the final blow. Antonio Senzatela took over pitching for the Rockies. Javier Sanoja came to bat with two outs. Senzatela fired a 99-mile-per-hour fastball. Sanoja got all of it. The ball screamed toward right field. It hit the wall and bounced. Sanoja raced around the bases. Owen Caissie, Kyle Stowers, and Griffin Conine all stormed home. Miami led 9-5. Then Joe Mack singled up the middle. Sanoja scored again. The Marlins led 10-5. Colorado wouldn't quit. Hunter Goodman blasted a solo shot in the seventh. That made it 10-6. In the ninth, Mickey Moniak grounded out but Edouard Julien scored. Final score: Miami 10, Colorado 7. The Marlins improved to 46-40. Their pitching staff stayed strong. Sandy Alcantara earned the win. The Rockies fell to 33-53. Miami's offense was simply too much.
