Miami Strikes First at Coors Field
The Marlins came into Denver hungry. They'd just beaten the Rockies 10-7 the night before and wanted to keep rolling. Colorado was struggling hard, sitting at 33-53 and losing their last three games straight. The Rockies' pitching staff faces one of baseball's toughest jobsâthrowing at Coors Field where the thin air makes every pitch harder to control.
Griffin Conine stepped up first and smacked a double to right field off Tanner Gordon's 84-mile-per-hour changeup. Kyle Stowers raced home. Miami led 1-0 before the Rockies could even blink. But Mickey Moniak answered back fast. He launched a 424-foot bomb to centerâthe ball rocketed into the Mile High sky and landed way back in the bleachers. The score was tied 1-1.
The Marlins kept their foot on the gas. Leo Jimenez singled to center, and Javier Sanoja scored to make it 2-1. Miami's bats were warm already.
Sanoja's Power Show Takes Over
The third inning is when things got wild. Javier Sanoja stood in the batter's box with power on his mind. He crushed a fastball 419 feet to left-center field. The ball sailed over the wall like it was shot from a cannon. Two runs came home with himâXavier Edwards and Owen Caissie both scored. Miami led 5-1 now.
The Rockies tried to claw back but couldn't catch up. Colorado's pitching collapsed. In the sixth inning, Kyle Stowers singled to right. Leo Jimenez scored. Griffin Conine added another single that brought home Liam Hicks. Xavier Edwards followed with a single that scored Stowers. Miami made it 8-1.
Then Joe Mack delivered the knockout punch. He launched a 450-foot moonshot to right field in the seventh inning. Sanoja scored. The Marlins were rolling nowâthey led 10-1 and the game was basically over.
Marlins Cruise to a 14-3 Victory
Miami wasn't done yet. Owen Caissie stepped up in the eighth inning and launched a monster shotâ453 feet to right-center. The ball flew like a rocket past everyone. Conine and Edwards both scored. Miami led 13-2 now and owned this game completely.
The Marlins added one more run in the ninth. Kyle Stowers doubled to center, and Leo Jimenez scored, making it 14-2. Colorado got one back when Ezequiel Tovar doubled to left in the bottom of the ninth. Kyle Karros scored. Final score: Miami Marlins 14, Colorado Rockies 3.
The Marlins improved to 47-40 and kept winning. Eury Perez earned the victory, striking out eight batters in 5 and a third innings. Colorado fell to 33-54. This loss made their struggles worse. Miami's bats woke up completely at Coors Field. The Marlins proved their pitching and hitting could both shine on the same night.
