Miami Strikes First, but Coors Field Energy Builds
The Marlins came into this game after dropping a heart-breaker to the Rockies. Yesterday they'd dominated 14-3, but today the story would flip. Colorado's home crowd at Coors Field was hungry for a win. Miami jumped ahead fast. Xavier Edwards cracked the ball and forced a fielder's choice—Liam Hicks sprinted home for a 1-0 lead. Then Owen Caissie followed up with a sacrifice fly, and Otto Lopez scored to make it 2-0. The Marlins looked sharp early. But the Rockies answered right back. Mickey Moniak crushed a fastball that rocketed 407 feet into right-center field. The ball disappeared over the wall and the crowd erupted. Moniak had tied the game instantly at 2-1 with one powerful swing. Colorado's bats were waking up.
Rockies Explode in Middle Innings, Marlins Cannot Keep Up
The game stayed tight until the middle innings flipped everything. In the third inning, Willi Castro singled up the middle and drove in two runs—McCarthy and Moniak both scored. Colorado grabbed a 3-2 lead. Then came the fourth. Jake McCarthy stepped up and took a slider from John King deep to right field. The ball sailed 429 feet out of the park for a two-run homer. Colorado was ahead 4-3. But the real explosion happened in the sixth inning. Jake McCarthy singled to left and two more runs came across. Then Moniak singled, then TJ Rumfield, then Troy Johnston all added hits. Run after run kept crossing home plate. By the time the dust settled, Colorado had scored six runs in that single inning alone. Miami's pitchers were getting shelled.
Late Fireworks Seal Dominant Rockies Victory at Home
The Rockies added two more runs in the eighth inning to put the game completely out of reach. Cole Carrigg hit a sacrifice fly that sent TJ Rumfield home. Then Brett Sullivan singled to right and Johnston scored to make it 14-4. Miami never threatened to come back. The Marlins' pitching staff got worn down by Colorado's aggressive bats. Otto Lopez and his teammates couldn't generate enough offense to match the Rockies' firepower. When the final out was recorded, Colorado had won 14-4. It was a complete reversal from yesterday's blowout loss. The Rockies improved to 34-53 on the season while Miami fell to 46-41. For the Marlins, this loss stung after dominating the night before. The two teams had split the series evenly, each winning once in an exciting matchup at Coors Field.
