Phillies Dominate Marlins Behind Wheeler's Masterpiece
The Phillies hosted the Marlins at Citizens Bank Park on Monday night. Miami came in hot, riding a one-game winning streak. Philadelphia was looking to bounce back after losing their last game. The Marlins brought their 36-36 record to Philly. The Phillies stood at 38-33. Right from the start, you could feel the energy shift. Zack Wheeler took the mound for Philadelphia and was absolutely locked in. He would go on to pitch 6 innings of pure dominance, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 9 batters. The Marlins couldn't find any rhythm at the plate. Ryan Gusto struggled for Miami, giving up 8 hits in just 4.2 innings. The final score told the whole story. Philadelphia crushed Miami 7-0, shutting down every Marlins batter who stepped up to swing. It was a complete pitching performance that showed why the Phillies' rotation is one of the best in baseball.
Phillies Strike Early, Never Look Back
Let's walk through how Philadelphia built their lead. In the bottom of the second inning, Gabriel Rincones Jr. cranked a hanging sweeper from Ryan Gusto. The ball rocketed off his bat and sailed 385 feet to right field. One swing, and it was 1-0 Phillies. The damage kept coming in the third inning. Brandon Marsh reached base and set the table. Bryson Stott worked his way on with a walk. Then Rincones Jr. hit a ground ball that turned into a fielder's choice. Marsh crossed the plate to make it 2-0. Justin Crawford slapped a single to center, and Stott scored to push it to 3-0. The Marlins' defense couldn't keep up with Philadelphia's speed and aggression. By the fifth inning, J.T. Realmuto crushed a two-run homer that traveled 412 feet to left field. With Stott already on base, Realmuto's blast extended the lead to 5-0. The Phillies were in complete control.
Philadelphia Piles On Late, Shuts Out Miami
The game stayed at 5-0 going into the eighth inning. Philadelphia wasn't done scoring yet. Cade Gibson came in to pitch for the Marlins in relief, but the Phillies kept attacking. With one out in the eighth, Alec Bohm stepped up and lifted a sacrifice fly to right field. Crawford, who was on base, tagged up and sprinted home. The score jumped to 6-0. One batter later, Bryce Harper also hit a sacrifice fly to right field. Sosa crossed the plate, and the lead swelled to 7-0. That was all she wrote. The Marlins never threatened to score a single run all night long. Wheeler was absolutely untouchable on the mound. Miami's hitters looked lost at the plate, struggling to make solid contact. The final score of 7-0 showed just how much Philadelphia dominated. The Phillies improved to 39-33 with this massive win. The Marlins fell to 36-37 and dropped their winning streak.
