Philadelphia Rolls Past Miami Behind Explosive Early Bats
The Phillies came ready to swing early against the visiting Marlins on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park. Miami had lost 7-0 the night before and was looking for better results. That didn't happen. Philadelphia's offense came out swinging hard from the first inning. Brandon Marsh crushed a 402-foot bomb into center field that scored two runs in the second inning. Alec Bohm added another monster shot—a 447-footer to center in the same inning. Kyle Schwarber launched a two-run blast in the fourth, pushing Philadelphia way ahead. The Phillies controlled the pace and never let the Marlins catch up. Jesús Luzardo took the mound for Philadelphia and pitched strong, striking out nine batters through seven innings. The damage was done early. Phillies 8, Marlins 2 final.
The Marlins Finally Strike Back in the Seventh
For six innings, the Marlins could barely get anything going. Tyler Phillips was on the mound for Miami and struggled badly, giving up eight runs in just four innings of work. The Phillies' pitchers kept the Marlins' bats quiet through most of the game. But the seventh inning gave Miami one moment to celebrate. Esteury Ruiz stepped up and sent a 358-foot blast over the left field wall, scoring Leo Jimenez ahead of him. It was a bright spot in an otherwise rough night for the visiting team. The score moved to 8-2. Two runs weren't enough to mount any real comeback, but at least Miami got on the board and showed some fight. The Marlins' power hitter Ruiz proved he could still deliver when it mattered.
Luzardo Locks Down the Win as Phillies Move to 39-33
Jesús Luzardo was sharp all night for Philadelphia. The Phillies' ace dealt for seven strong innings, striking out nine batters and giving up just five hits and two runs. He was in complete control. Miami couldn't put together any real pressure offensively once they fell behind early. The Marlins managed only six hits total and couldn't piece together any big innings after Ruiz's seventh-inning homer. Tanner Banks and Max Lazar came out of the Phillies' bullpen to finish the job cleanly. The final score was Philadelphia 8, Miami 2. The Phillies improved their record to 39-33 with the win. Miami dropped to 36-37 on the season. Philadelphia stayed strong at home while Miami's road trip got off to a rough start. The Marlins would need to bounce back quickly.
