Stowers Crushes Miami's Path to Victory
The Marlins came to Philadelphia looking to bounce back. They'd lost 8-2 the night before and needed a big game. The Phillies were hungry too. But Miami's bats woke up fast. Kyle Stowers launched a 95-mph fastball from Andrew Painter into right field. Otto Lopez scored on the blast. Just like that, the Marlins led 2-0 in the first inning. Then the Phillies answered right back. Brandon Marsh singled and Alec Bohm followed with another hit. Two runs scored. The score stayed tight early. But you could feel the momentum shifting toward Miami. Stowers wasn't done yet. His bat was alive, and the Marlins' lineup was ready to attack.
The Marlins Explode in Inning Two
The second inning was pure chaos for Philadelphia. Owen Caissie smashed a fastball over the right-center wall. Just one pitch into the inning and Miami led 3-2. Then things got worse for the Phillies. Liam Hicks singled and Joe Mack scored. Stowers doubled down the line and Ruiz raced home. Xavier Edwards poked an infield single and Hicks scored. That's four runs in one inning. The Marlins had a 6-2 advantage. Later, Philadelphia scored on a balk by Sandy Alcantara, but the damage was done. Miami's young bats were swinging hard and connecting. This was the turning point of the game. Painter couldn't escape the mess. The Phillies' pitcher was pulled after giving up six runs in two innings.
Miami Keeps Piling It On Late
The Marlins weren't finished scoring. In the sixth inning, Joe Mack hit another bomb to right-center field. Two more runs crossed the plate. Otto Lopez added a sacrifice fly and Ruiz scored. Then Stowers stepped up and crushed his fourth hit of the night. This time he sent it flying to right-center—436 feet away. One more run scored. Miami led 10-4. The eighth inning brought more damage. Stowers singled again and Mack scored once more. The Marlins' total was now 11-4. Jakob Marsee finished the scoring in the ninth with a home run to right. Final score: Miami 12, Philadelphia 4. The Marlins improved to 38-38. Sandy Alcantara earned the win. This was a dominant performance against a Phillies team that couldn't catch up all night.
