Marlins Strike Early Against Pallante's Cardinals
The Miami Marlins showed up ready for a fight at Busch Stadium. After losing the night before, they came into Saturday hungry for a win. The Cardinals sent Andre Pallante to the mound, but Miami's bats were too quick. In the first inning, Kyle Stowers slapped a single to right field, and Otto Lopez came home. That was just the start. The Marlins kept attacking. In the third inning, Stowers struck again with another single through the middle, scoring Joe Mack. By the fourth inning, Miami had built a lead that looked unbeatable. Javier Sanoja drove in Jakob Marsee with a single to right. Then Xavier Edwards followed with his own hit to left, bringing Sanoja home. The Marlins were flying. Pallante was getting hit hard and couldn't find his rhythm. Miami led 4-0 after just four innings.
Pallante Struggles as Miami Builds Command
Andre Pallante was getting battered by the Miami lineup. The Marlins' hitters were all seeing the ball clearly and making solid contact. Xavier Edwards and Javier Sanoja were putting pressure on every pitch. Sanoja showed off his speed too, stealing bases when he got the chance. The Cardinals' pitcher couldn't settle down. He was giving up hits left and right. Miami's pitching staff, meanwhile, was throwing a different story. Ryan Gusto took the mound for the Marlins and pitched 3.1 strong innings with four strikeouts. He didn't give up any runs. John King came in and pitched 1.1 innings without allowing a hit. Lake Bachar then took over. In the sixth inning, the Cardinals finally broke through. Masyn Winn singled to right, and Jordan Walker scored to make it 4-1. But that was all St. Louis could manage.
Edwards Adds Late Insurance as Marlins Cruise
The Marlins weren't done scoring. In the seventh inning, Otto Lopez stepped up with his team leading 4-1. He drove a single to right field, and Xavier Edwards sprinted home easily. Miami now led 5-1. That insurance run was huge. It gave the Marlins breathing room. The Cardinals tried to fight back, but Miami's bullpen locked them down tight. Anthony Bender struck out two batters and didn't give up a hit. Tyler Zuber came in and retired the side without any trouble. St. Louis couldn't get the rally going they needed. The final score was Miami 5, St. Louis 1. The Marlins improved to 43-39 with this strong road victory. Their winning streak continued. They came in on a three-game winning run and left St. Louis with another W. The Cardinals fell to 42-37, now losing three straight games.
How did this victory change the Marlins' season standing?
