Brewers Pitch Perfection Behind Woodruff
The Milwaukee Brewers came into Great American Ball Park ready to dominate. They were on a winning streak and looking to stay hot against Cincinnati. Brady Singer took the mound for the Reds, but the Brewers' pitching was even sharper. Brandon Woodruff was absolutely electric on the mound. He threw six innings of pure dominance, giving up just one hit while striking out ten batters. Not a single walk escaped his hand. The Brewers' bullpen stayed just as locked in. Aaron Ashby, Abner Uribe, and Trevor Megill combined for three scoreless innings. Cincinnati had no answer for Milwaukee's pitchers. The Brewers' arms were on a completely different level tonight.
Tenth Inning Chaos Breaks Open the Game
The game stayed tight through nine innings. Then the tenth inning arrived and everything changed. Joey Ortiz stepped up to the plate against Tony Santillan. Santillan threw a 95-mile-per-hour four-seam fastball. Ortiz connected and lifted a sacrifice fly to right field. That brought Garrett Mitchell racing home from third base. The score jumped to 1-0 Milwaukee. But Santillan wasn't done making mistakes. A wild pitch flew past the catcher. Mitchell took off and scored again on that wild throw. Now it was 2-0 Brewers. Cincinnati's pitcher couldn't find the strike zone. The Reds desperately needed to answer back in their half of the tenth.
Reds Fight Back Late but Fall Short
Cincinnati's bats finally came alive in the bottom of the tenth. Joel Kuhnel was on the mound for Milwaukee. Sal Stewart stepped into the batter's box with runners in scoring position. He grounded out to third base. But that's all Cincinnati could manage. Blake Dunn scored on Stewart's groundout to make it 2-1. The Reds were close but just not close enough. Milwaukee's pitchers shut the door. The final score was Brewers 2, Reds 1. Milwaukee moved to 46-29 with this road victory. Cincinnati dropped to 37-39. The Brewers' dominant pitching staff proved why they could win games any night. This tight contest showed just how tough baseball can be.
