Brewers Strike Fast in Cincinnati
The Milwaukee Brewers walked into Great American Ball Park on Wednesday ready to finish off the Cincinnati Reds. Milwaukee was riding a three-game winning streak and owned a 48-29 record. Cincinnati was struggling at 37-41 and had just dropped the last two games of this series. The Brewers had won 2-0 the night before. Now they faced Rhett Lowder on the mound. In the third inning, William Contreras stepped up with two outs and Jackson Chourio on base. A 91-mph sinker came in, and Contreras turned on it. The ball exploded off his bat and soared 399 feet to center field. The crowd watched it sail over the wall. Chourio scored, and Milwaukee jumped ahead 2-0. Two pitches later, Jake Bauers connected on an 86-mph changeup. His blast traveled 428 feet to right-center. The Brewers were running away early, leading 3-0 before the Reds could even score.
Milwaukee Explodes Against Relievers
The Reds needed to stop the bleeding fast. They brought in Chad Patrick in the sixth inning to try to slow Milwaukee's bats. Blake Dunn got the Reds on the board with a double to right. Noelvi Marte scored, and Cincinnati cut the deficit to 3-1. But the Brewers weren't done. In the seventh inning, Sam Moll came in for Cincinnati. Andrew Vaughn stepped up and crushed a 90-mph sinker to left field. The ball rattled off the wall as a double. Bauers scored, Brice Turang scored, and Contreras scored on the play. Milwaukee's lead ballooned to 6-1. The Reds fought back quickly. Eugenio Suárez smacked a 94-mph fastball to left for a double, scoring Sal Stewart. The score became 6-2. Cincinnati was still alive, but Milwaukee's firepower had built a comfortable cushion early.
Cincinnati Charges Late But Falls Short
The eighth inning became wild. Craig Yoho took over for Milwaukee and immediately got in trouble. Sal Stewart grounded out to shortstop, but Edwin Arroyo scored and Elly De La Cruz moved to third. Then Spencer Steer stepped up. A 93-mph four-seam fastball came right down the middle. Steer turned and launched it to center field. The ball flew 400 feet and cleared the wall. De La Cruz scored behind him. Milwaukee led 6-5. Joel Kuhnel closed things out for the Brewers in the ninth, and the final score stayed 6-5. Milwaukee improved to 48-29 and stayed hot on the road. Cincinnati fell to 37-41 and lost their third straight. The Reds showed fight all game long, but Milwaukee's early barrage proved decisive. Two home runs in the third inning and strong pitching sealed the victory for the visitors.
