Brewers Roll Into Denver, Down 4-2 to Trouble
You could feel it coming. The Brewers arrived in Denver with a 40-23 record and three straight wins. Colorado's Rockies limped in at 24-42 after losing four in a row. The night before, Milwaukee had squeezed out a 9-7 victory in ten innings. This game would be different. The Brewers came out swinging hard and fast. Shane Drohan shut down the Rockies through six innings. The power hitters did the rest. You knew from the first pitch this would be a statement game.
Vaughn Crushes Triple, Sanchez Launches 447-Footer
The flood started early. In the second inning, Luis Rengifo doubled to center and Vaughn scored. Score was 1-2. Then came the sixth. Andrew Vaughn absolutely rifled a triple down the right-field line. Contreras scored easily. Two outs later, Gary Sanchez stepped in against Jaden Hill. One swing. The ball rocketed off his bat and soared over the left-center wall for 447 feet. Two runs scored on that monster shot. Suddenly it was 4-3 Brewers. The sixth inning became a showcase. Joey Ortiz drew a walk. Brice Turang smacked a single to right. Two more runs crossed. William Contreras grounded out but Ortiz scored. Milwaukee's bats were absolutely alive.
Mitchell's Triple Seals the Rout, Brewers Keep Rolling
By the ninth inning, Milwaukee was just having fun. Gary Sanchez doubled to left. Contreras and Vaughn were ready to score. Then Garrett Mitchell stepped in. Mitchell ripped a triple to center. Vaughn and Sanchez both scored. That made it 11-3. Luis Rengifo hit a sacrifice fly to left. Mitchell crossed home. Final score: 12-4 Brewers. Jackson Chourio went 3-for-6 on the day. Andrew Vaughn finished 3-for-5 with three runs. The Brewers' bats were unstoppable. Shane Drohan earned the win. He threw 6.1 innings and gave up only three earned runs. Colorado's Hunter Goodman hit a solo shot in the ninth, but it was too little, too late. Milwaukee improved to 41-23. Colorado fell to 24-43. The Brewers headed home with momentum on their side.
