Twins Strike Fast Against Slumping Arizona Pitching
The Minnesota Twins came to Arizona hungry for a win. They'd lost the night before 9-5, but today felt different. The Diamondbacks sent Zac Gallen to the mound, and the Twins jumped all over him from the start. In the first inning, Brooks Lee ripped a single to right field. The ball found its way through the infield, and suddenly Josh Bell and Trevor Larnach were sprinting home. Minnesota led 2-0 before Arizona even got a bat. The Twins kept their foot on the pedal. Every time Gallen threw a pitch, Minnesota's lineup was ready. By the end of the first few innings, the score was already 6-0. The Diamondbacks couldn't find their rhythm. Arizona's pitching staff was falling apart, and the Twins made them pay with every mistake.
Buxton's Blast Turns Game Into Route in Inning Five
Then came the fifth inning, and Byron Buxton stepped to the plate. The Diamondbacks had brought in relief pitcher Yilber Diaz to try stopping the bleeding. Diaz threw a 96-mile-per-hour fastball right down the middle. Buxton didn't miss it. The ball rocketed off his bat like a rocket ship, sailing over the right-center wall for a two-run homer. The crowd went silent. Minnesota led 12-0, and the game was completely out of reach. Victor Caratini kept the damage coming with a single to right. Ryan Kreidler added another hit to left. By the time the inning ended, the Twins had scored another four runs. The scoreboard read 16-0. Arizona's pitchers were struggling to throw strikes. Walks piled up. Hits kept coming. The Diamondbacks couldn't escape the inning fast enough.
Arizona Fights Back Late but Minnesota Wins in Blowout
Arizona finally woke up in the seventh inning. Jorge Barrosa had already hit a solo home run in the fifth, but now the Diamondbacks' lineup started to find some pitches. Geraldo Perdomo walked to load the bases. Ildemaro Vargas stepped up and smacked a double to right field. Three runs scored on that one hit, making it 16-6. Pavin Smith added a single to left for Arizona's seventh run. Minnesota's pitchers started leaking runs like a bucket with holes in it. But it was too late. The Twins had built such a massive lead that Arizona couldn't catch up. The final score read Minnesota 16, Arizona 8. The Twins improved their record and walked out of Arizona with a huge victory. Sometimes you just have one of those games where everything works perfectly.
