Red Sox Strike First, Twins Wake Up
The Twins rolled into Boston's Fenway Park ready to battle. The Red Sox were 22-28 and struggling at home. Minnesota came in hot with a 2-game winning streak and a 24-27 record. But Boston came out swinging in the first inning. Wilyer Abreu smacked a 83-mph slider and doubled down the right field line. Then Willson Contreras crushed an 85-mph changeup and tripled into center. Andruw Monasterio singled to left. Marcelo Mayer sent a sacrifice fly to center. Just like that, the Red Sox led 4-0. The Twins' starter Connor Prielipp was getting hammered early. You could feel the energy shift inside the ballpark. Boston had jumped out to a monster lead before Minnesota even stepped up to bat.
Twins Strike Back with Big Bats
Minnesota answered hard in the second inning. The Twins loaded the bases with runners. Ryan Kreidler doubled down the left field line and Josh Bell scored. Luke Keaschall followed with a 96-mph fastball that he turned on and singled to right. Gabriel Gonzalez crossed home plate. Byron Buxton then drove a 90-mph cutter to left field and singled hard. Ryan Kreidler raced home. The score was now 3-4, Boston still ahead. But wait—the Red Sox stretched it to 6-3 in the fourth. Caleb Durbin bunted the ball and it bounced off Prielipp's glove for an error. Then Jarren Duran grounded out but Narvaez scored. Boston's offense was relentless. Both teams kept trading blows back and forth.
Buxton and Martin Blow Game Wide Open
The seventh inning changed everything. Byron Buxton stepped up against Justin Slaten. The Red Sox reliever fired a 91-mph cutter. Buxton connected with explosive power. The ball rocketed 419 feet over the center field wall. Keaschall raced home from third. The Twins pulled within one at 5-6. Then Austin Martin came right up. Slaten threw an 85-mph sweeper. Martin crushed it left-center field for 377 feet. Another home run. Lee scored and Martin was pumping his fist rounding the bases. Minnesota led 7-6. The momentum had flipped completely. In the ninth inning, Trevor Larnach walked and Lee scored again. Final score: Twins 8, Red Sox 6. Minnesota's bats woke up when it mattered most. The Twins improved to 25-27 and stayed hot. Boston fell to 22-29. What a comeback.
