Pirates Strike First, Twins Fight Back
The Twins showed up at PNC Park ready to bounce back after losing 5-6 the night before. Pittsburgh's bats came alive fast. In the bottom of the first, Spencer Horwitz crushed an 88-mile-per-hour fastball from Bailey Ober deep to right field. The ball soared 408 feet—gone! Pirates led 1-0 before the Twins even recorded an out.
Minnesota answered right back in the second inning. Victor Caratini doubled down the left field line, and Kody Clemens raced home. The score was tied 1-1. But Pittsburgh exploded in that same inning. Jake Mangum launched his own shot—a 410-foot bomb to right-center field. The Pirates weren't done. Nick Gonzales singled to right, driving in two runs. Then Oneil Cruz stepped up and launched a missile 420 feet to center field for a three-run homer. Just like that, Pittsburgh led 7-1. The Twins' pitcher Bailey Ober was getting hammered.
Clemens' Triple Sparks Twins' Comeback
Minnesota's bats woke up in the third inning. Kody Clemens smacked a triple to center field off a 91-mile-per-hour changeup. Byron Buxton raced home, and suddenly the Twins were back in it—down 7-2. The fourth inning brought pure offensive fireworks. Tristan Gray doubled to center, scoring both Orlando Arcia and Luke Keaschall. Then Josh Bell crushed a double to left field, driving in two more runs. It was 7-6, Pirates still up but barely breathing. Clemens singled to right, bringing Bell home to tie the game at 7-7!
The Pirates answered in the fifth. Jake Mangum smashed a single to left field. Griffin scored, and Pittsburgh went back up 8-7. Then came the seventh inning. Jared Triolo singled to right, scoring Rodriguez. Bryan Reynolds stepped up with two outs and smacked a sacrifice fly to right field. Mangum tagged and scored the go-ahead run. Pittsburgh led 10-7 and was charging toward the finish line.
Pirates Hold On for Walk-Off Win
The Twins weren't finished fighting. In the eighth inning, Brooks Lee drew a walk off Mason Montgomery's fastball. Keaschall scored to make it 10-8. Josh Bell came up next, and Minnesota had hope. But Bell fouled out to first base. The crowd held its breath. Would the Twins tie it up? Would they steal the win? The Pirates' closer Gregory Soto took the mound and shut the door tight. Minnesota couldn't push across another run. The final score was 10-9, Pittsburgh Pirates victorious! The Pirates improved to 31-28 and grabbed their second straight win. The Twins fell to 27-32, dropping their fourth game in a row. Bailey Ober took the loss after giving up 7 earned runs in 4.2 innings. It was a heartbreaker for Minnesota—so close but just couldn't finish.
