Friday Night at Truist Park: Mets' Challenge
The New York Mets rolled into Atlanta on Friday night ready to fight back. They'd dropped their last game 3-0, so this was their chance to spark their offense. The Braves welcomed them at Truist Park in a matchup between two teams struggling lately. The Mets came in 36-51 while Atlanta sat at 50-35. You could feel the energy building in the Georgia heat as both teams warmed up. This game would tell us plenty about where each club stood. By the final pitch, the Braves' bats had done the damage. Atlanta won 5-3, staying ahead in the standings. Juan Soto and Matt Olson would make their presence felt all night.
Early Fireworks: Harris and Soto Battle
Let's jump right into the action. In the second inning, Michael Harris II stepped up against Mets pitcher Christian Scott. The ball jumped off Harris's bat and sailed deep to center field. It rocketed 419 feet into the air before clearing the wall. Mauricio Dubón scored ahead of him, and suddenly the Braves led 2-0. The Mets needed an answer fast. In the third inning, Juan Soto came through. He crushed a 359-foot bomb to left field off Grant Holmes. A.J. Ewing crossed the plate before Soto touched down, making it 2-2. The game was tied up tight. Both teams were swinging hard and trading blows early.
Olson Takes Over: Braves Pull Away Late
By the fifth inning, the Braves' first baseman Matt Olson was ready to strike. Facing relief pitcher A.J. Minter, Olson connected on an 88-mile-per-hour cutter. The ball soared 429 feet to right-center field. Just like that, Atlanta led 4-2. The Mets refused to quit completely. In the ninth inning, Bo Bichette ripped a single to right field off closer Raisel Iglesias. Luis Torrens sprinted home, and the score became 4-3. But Atlanta had one more punch left. Olson came back up in the eighth inning and hammered another homer, this one 411 feet to right. The Braves' lead stretched to 5-3. Iglesias locked down the final out. Atlanta's bats had spoken.
