Mets Travel to Seattle, Emerson Strikes First
The Mets rolled into T-Mobile Park in Seattle looking to bounce back after dropping their last game. New York came in at 26-35 for the season, struggling on the road. The Mariners sat at 33-29 and riding an eight-game winning streak at home. Juan Soto and the Mets needed a win badly. But Seattle had other plans. In the bottom of the third, Colt Emerson stepped up against Sean Manaea. The Mariners slugger crushed a sweeper that had no chance. The ball rocketed over the right field wall. Emerson's solo shot put Seattle ahead 1-0. The Mariners' bats were waking up early. The Mets would need to find their offense fast to keep pace in this matchup.
Mets Strike Back with Back-to-Back Blasts
The Mets came roaring back in the fifth inning. Jared Young stepped into the box against Emerson Hancock. Young connected on a fastball and sent it soaring to center field. The ball traveled 424 feet before clearing the wall. Young's solo home run tied the game at 1-1. But New York wasn't done yet. One inning later, Marcus Semien came up with Seattle's pitcher still on the mound. Semien worked the count and got a four-seam fastball to hit. He drove it hard to left field for another solo shot, this time 389 feet. Just like that, the Mets grabbed the lead 2-1. The momentum had completely shifted. Seattle needed to respond or this game would slip away.
Mariners Walk Off in Extra Innings Drama
The Mariners were in trouble. Josh Naylor came through in the seventh with a clutch moment. Brooks Raley threw a sweeper that Naylor didn't miss. The ball rocketed to right field for a solo home run at 373 feet. Just like that, Seattle tied it 2-2. The game went extra innings. Everyone was on the edge of their seats. In the tenth inning, Cole Young stepped up with runners in position. With the bases charged and Arozarena ready to run, Young ripped a single to left field. Arozarena raced home with the winning run. Final score: Mariners 3, Mets 2. Seattle improved to 33-30 and stayed hot. New York fell to 26-36 but fought until the final out.
