Mets Face Fire as Mariners Strike Early
The Mets rolled into Seattle after losing to the Mariners 3-2 the night before. They came to T-Mobile Park hoping to bounce back and steal a win on the road. The Mariners stood at 33-30 and were hungry to climb back into first place. But Seattle was ready to make a statement. By game's end, the Mariners blasted the Mets 8-3 with a barrage of home runs that lit up the scoreboard. Patrick Wisdom and Julio Rodriguez launched bombs over the fence. Jhonny Pereda cranked a three-run shot that put Seattle way ahead. The Mets' Carson Benge hit two home runs himself and drove in three runs, but it wasn't nearly enough. The story of this game was Seattle's bats. They swung hard and made every pitch count.
The Long Ball Show Takes Over
Seattle started swinging for the fences in the second inning. Patrick Wisdom stepped up against Mets pitcher Huascar Brazoban and launched a changeup 429 feet into left center field. The ball sailed over the wall and Dominic Canzone raced home. It was 2-0 Mariners and the crowd was roaring. The Mets answered right back in the third inning. Carson Benge connected on a cutter from Logan Gilbert and sent it soaring 394 feet to right center. A.J. Ewing scored on the play. The score was tied at 2-2. Then Seattle went back to work. In the bottom of the fourth, Julio Rodriguez lifted a sacrifice fly to left field and Patrick Wisdom scored. The Mariners took the lead 3-2 and never let it go.
Mariners Put Game Out of Reach
The Mariners' bats came alive again in the fifth inning. Jhonny Pereda stepped to the plate against Jonah Tong with runners on base. He got a fastball he liked and ripped it 388 feet to left center. The ball cleared the wall and three runs scored. Seattle stretched the lead to 7-2 and the Mets were in trouble. Carson Benge struck again for New York in the sixth inning, blasting a solo shot 399 feet to center off Logan Gilbert. That made it 3-7. But then Julio Rodriguez answered for Seattle with a home run of his own to left center, traveling 396 feet. The final score was Mariners 8, Mets 3. Seattle improved to 33-30 and kept their playoff hopes alive. The Mets dropped to 27-35 and faced another tough road loss.
