Mets Strike First After a Tough Loss
The Mets came to Seattle hungry for a win. They had lost the night before 3–2 in a brutal 10th inning, so this game was all about bouncing back. The Mariners sat at 33–30 and were looking for back-to-back wins at home. But the Mets had other plans. You could feel the energy shift in the first inning when Jared Young hit a grounder that led to an error. Bo Bichette scored and the Mets took the early lead 1–0. Then J.P. Crawford answered back with a rocket to right-center that tied things up 1–1. The game was heating up fast and both teams wanted control. Neither squad wanted to give an inch.
Bichette Takes Over and Mets Blow It Open
The fourth inning changed everything. That's when Bo Bichette stepped up and got his hands on a fastball from George Kirby. The ball shot up the middle and Melendez and Torrens both scored. The Mets led 3–1 now. Then things got wild. Benge stole home while Soto swiped second base on the same play. The crowd went quiet as the Mets kept adding runs. Young doubled down the right field line and Soto scored to make it 5–1. In the fifth inning, MJ Melendez doubled to right and Ewing raced home. The Mets were unstoppable. Seattle's pitchers couldn't find the zone and the Mariners' defense couldn't slow down New York's attack.
Mariners Cannot Catch Up as Mets Seal the Victory
Seattle never recovered. The Mariners fought hard but the damage was already done. Freddy Peralta was tremendous on the mound for New York. He threw six innings and allowed just one run while striking out six batters. The bullpen locked things down tight. Luke Weaver came in and didn't give up a hit. Neither did Joey Gerber. Brooks Raley added another inning of scoreless baseball. In the eighth inning, Bo Bichette hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Torrens to make it 7–1. The final score was New York 7, Seattle 1. The Mets improved to 27–35 with this dominant road victory. They showed they could win big games when everyone played their part.
