Yankees Strike First as Chisholm Goes Yard in Second
The Yankees rolled into Cleveland ready to keep their winning streak alive. They came in 41-26, riding a four-game win streak after beating the Guardians 3-2 the night before. But Cleveland wasn't backing down. The home team wanted to bounce back at their stadium. The first inning came fast. Angel Martinez stepped up and crushed a Carlos Rodon fastball over the left-field wall. One swing, one run. The ball sailed 406 feet and the crowd roared. Then came the second inning, and the Yankees answered back hard. Jazz Chisholm Jr. ripped a triple into right field. Trent Grisham and Jose Caballero both came home sprinting. Chisholm kept running and scored on an error. The Yankees suddenly led 3-1 and the momentum had turned completely their way.
Cleveland Fights Back but Yankees Keep Pouring It On
The Guardians refused to quit. In the fourth inning, Austin Hedges ripped a double down the right-field line. That brought Brayan Rocchio to the plate, who lifted a sacrifice fly to right. Two runs scored and suddenly it was 3-3. The game was tied and anybody could win. But New York kept swinging the bats. In the sixth inning, Jose Caballero flew out to left, but Grisham scored. Then Anthony Volpe doubled left and Chisholm sprinted home. Paul Goldschmidt singled right and Volpe crossed the plate. The Yankees were on fire. By the seventh inning, New York had stretched their lead to 8-3. Caballero singled right, Bellinger scored, and Chisholm's ground ball brought Grisham in. The Guardians' pitching staff couldn't keep the Yankees' bats quiet.
Rodon Dominates as Yankees Close Out the Victory
Carlos Rodon pitched like a magician for New York. The Yankees' ace threw six innings, giving up four hits and just three runs. He struck out seven batters and walked three. That's the kind of pitching that wins games. The Guardians mounted one last push in the ninth inning. Austin Hedges doubled to center field. Fairchild raced home and suddenly it was 8-4. But that was all Cleveland could muster. The final score: Yankees 8, Guardians 4. New York improved to 42-26 with the road victory. Cleveland fell to 37-33 and extended their losing streak to four games. The Yankees' pitching staff kept the Guardians' bats frustrated all night. Without Aaron Judge in the lineup due to injury, the Yankees proved they had plenty of firepower. Chisholm Jr., Grisham, and Caballero all did damage at the plate. New York was on a roll heading into the rest of the road trip.
