Game night setup and final score
The New York Yankees hosted the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, April 7. Fans at the Yankees' home watched a close game that ended 5β3 in New York's favor. The Yankees started with a quick blast in the second inning when Rosario homered to left. Oakland answered in the third with a big two-run double by Kurtz and another run from Soderstrom, turning the game around briefly. The ball flew hard and players moved fast, creating excitement. By the eighth inning New York launched a big rally and took the lead back, which decided the final outcome.
Early scoring and big third inning
Early in the game Rosario hit a 399-foot homer to left for New York in the second inning. That gave the Yankees a 1β0 lead and lifted the crowd. In the top of the third Oakland struck back. Kurtz doubled to center and McNeil and Muncy scored, making it 2β1 for Oakland. Then Soderstrom doubled to bring Kurtz home, stretching the lead to 3β1. The Athletics' offense looked lively and their hits came off fast pitches and a curveball. Those three runs in the third inning were the turning point that forced the Yankees to chase the game later.
Big eighth inning and game finish
In the eighth inning the Yankees mounted a big comeback. Stanton singled to center and Bellinger scored, which made it 3β2 and put Rice on second. That set the stage for Rosario, who then hit a three-run homer to left. The ball sailed 414 feet and Rice and Grichuk scored too, turning a 3β2 deficit into a 5β3 lead. Oakland could not match those runs in the ninth, so New York held on to win. The result left the Yankees at 7β2 and the Athletics at 3β6, and both teams will play on after this exciting matchup.
