Phillies Travel to Milwaukee Looking for Answers
The Philadelphia Phillies rolled into Milwaukee on a high after winning their last game. They had beaten the Brewers 9-8 the night before in an incredible back-and-forth battle. But the Brewers were ready to punch back. Milwaukee's offense was hungry. The Phillies brought their ace Cristopher Sánchez to the mound. He was one of the best pitchers in baseball with an incredible 1.54 ERA. The final score would tell a story of dominance: Milwaukee 4, Philadelphia 0. The Brewers' bats were too strong. The Phillies' defense and pitching couldn't find their rhythm. Stars like Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, and Trea Turner all went quiet at the plate. Milwaukee's young talent was about to shine bright.
Brewers Strike Early with Two Huge Home Runs
From pitch one, the Brewers came out swinging. In the first inning, Jackson Chourio stepped into the box. Cristopher Sánchez fired a 95-mile-per-hour sinker right down the middle. Chourio didn't miss it. The ball exploded off his bat and sailed toward center field like a rocket. It cleared the wall 412 feet away. The crowd roared. Milwaukee led 1-0. Then in the fourth inning, Blake Perkins came up with two outs. Sánchez threw an 86-mile-per-hour slider. Perkins crushed it to left-center field. That home run traveled 399 feet and scored two more runners. Suddenly, the Brewers were up 4-0. The Phillies couldn't answer back. Milwaukee's young stars had taken complete control of the game.
Milwaukee's Pitchers Shut Down Philadelphia's Bats
The Brewers' pitching staff was absolutely locked in. Kyle Harrison took the mound for Milwaukee and was phenomenal. He pitched six full innings without giving up a single run. He allowed just three hits and struck out three Phillies batters. His fastball was sharp. His breaking balls were dancing. The Philadelphia lineup kept swinging and missing. Trea Turner went 0-for-4. Bryce Harper struck out and went 0-for-4. Alec Bohm also went 0-for-4. Only Kyle Schwarber collected a hit for the Phillies. The Brewers' bullpen took over and was just as solid. Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined to pitch three scoreless innings. Not one Phillies run crossed home plate. The Brewers improved to 42-26. Philadelphia dropped to 38-33.
