Pirates Strike First, Phillies Answer Back
The Pirates came to Citizens Bank Park looking to build on their momentum. Philadelphia was hungry too, sitting at 47-37 on the season. Right away, you could feel the energy. In the first inning, Trea Turner stepped up and launched a fastball deep to left — the ball sailed 424 feet and the home crowd roared. Brandon Marsh followed two batters later and did the same thing. His blast traveled 389 feet to left-center. The Phillies jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Pittsburgh even got a chance to swing. Braxton Ashcraft was Pittsburgh's starter, and he needed to settle down fast. The Pirates' bats were warming up in the dugout, ready to strike back.
Pirates Explode in the Middle Innings
Pittsburgh woke up in the fourth inning. Esmerlyn Valdez crushed a knuckle curve 411 feet to left field, and Bryan Reynolds raced home. Just one inning later, the Pirates took over completely. Jared Triolo smashed a pitch 419 feet to center for a solo homer. Brandon Lowe drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Then Ryan O'Hearn singled to left, scoring Griffin. Endy Rodriguez walked to bring home Reynolds, and the bases were packed with Pirates. Tyler Callihan's grounder turned into chaos — errors on the throw to second let two more runs in. Suddenly Pittsburgh led 8-5. Aaron Nola couldn't survive the fifth inning. The Pirates had turned this game upside down with raw power and aggressive baserunning.
Marsh Homers Again, Pirates Seal the Win
The Phillies weren't done yet. In the eighth inning, Brandon Marsh stepped up again and rocketed another home run to right-center, 416 feet away. The crowd stood and cheered. J.T. Realmuto singled to bring in Bryson Stott. Suddenly it was 8-7, and Philadelphia had a real chance. But Pittsburgh's bullpen held strong. In the ninth, Endy Rodriguez faced Chase Shugart and launched a two-run shot to right-center that flew 390 feet into the night sky. O'Hearn and another runner scored. The Pirates won 11-7. Pittsburgh improved to 43-42 with this road victory. The Phillies fell to 47-38 despite Marsh's two homers. Braxton Ashcraft got the win for Pittsburgh.
