Padres Strike First with Merrill and Taylor Homers
The Padres came into Baltimore hungry after losing 3-7 the night before. They wanted to bounce back fast. Jackson Merrill stepped up first and crushed a 372-foot bomb to left center off Trey Gibson. Tatis Jr. raced home. Two pitches later, Samad Taylor launched a 407-foot rocket straight to center field. Bogaerts scored. Just like that, it was 4-0 Padres in the first inning. Pete Alonso answered back quickly for the Orioles with a solo shot to right center. The Orioles wouldn't quit though. Leody Taveras ripped a triple to right, scoring Basallo. The Padres led 4-2 after one inning, but both teams were swinging hard and putting balls in play. The energy at the ballpark was electric already.
Padres Keep Adding Runs in Middle Innings
By the fifth inning, the Padres' bats were on fire. Samad Taylor singled to right, driving in Machado. Sheets moved to second, and Bogaerts reached third base. Nick Solak followed with a sacrifice fly to right, and Bogaerts scored. The Padres led 6-2. Then in the seventh inning, Gavin Sheets got his turn. He smashed a 355-foot home run to right off Albert Suarez. That made it 7-2 Padres. Even when Pete Alonso doubled to left for Baltimore and Henderson scored, the Padres stayed way ahead. The game felt decided. San Diego's pitchers were holding strong, and the bats kept punishing Baltimore's pitching all game long.
Padres Finish Strong, Improve Record with Decisive Win
In the eighth inning, Rodolfo Duran launched a 387-foot home run to left. That made it 8-3. The Padres kept rolling. In the ninth inning, Manny Machado stepped up and cranked a 429-foot bomb to center field. Final score: Padres 9, Orioles 3. What a performance. San Diego's lineup was relentless with six home runs total. The Padres improved to 36-33 with this dominant road victory. Their pitching staff, led by Randy Vasquez's five innings of work, was sharp. Meanwhile, Baltimore dropped to 34-38 at home. The Padres showed exactly why their solid pitching and power-hitting lineup can keep them fighting all season long. This win proves they belong in any conversation about contenders in their division.
