Rangers Strike Early with Langford's Three-Run Blast
The San Diego Padres rolled into Arlington after beating the Rangers 6-4 the night before. Both teams wanted to bounce back hard. The Rangers were sitting at 36-40, fighting to stay alive in the race. San Diego came in at 39-36, hungry to keep their winning streak going. But Texas had other plans. In the bottom of the third inning, Wyatt Langford stepped up and crushed a changeup from Lucas Giolito. The ball rocketed over the left field wall 403 feet. Kyle Higashioka and Nicky Lopez scored ahead of him. Just like that, the Rangers led 3-0 and the crowd at the ballpark erupted. Giolito had only thrown two pitches before things got ugly.
Padres Battle Back in Explosive Fourth Inning
San Diego wasn't going down without a fight. In the fourth inning, the Padres came roaring back. Gavin Sheets singled to right and Jackson Merrill sprinted home from second base. That made it 3-1. Then Xander Bogaerts stepped up and smacked a single up the middle. Manny Machado rumbled toward home, sliding hard into the plate. Now it was 3-2. The Rangers were suddenly nervous. But the Padres kept swinging. Sung-Mun Song ripped a double down the right field line. Bogaerts dashed home and scored the tying run. Song was standing on second, breathing hard, as the score evened at 3-3. The momentum had completely shifted. Everything felt different now.
Jung's Single Wins It for Texas in Fourth Inning
Just when the game felt balanced, Texas answered right back. In the bottom of the fourth, Josh Jung stepped into the box. Nathan Eovaldi was on the mound for the Rangers, and he needed his hitter to deliver. Jung swung hard at a four-seam fastball and lined a single into left field. Nicky Lopez raced home from second and slid across the plate. The Rangers were back on top, 4-3. That single run turned everything around. Eovaldi settled in after that, throwing six strong innings total. He struck out nine Padres hitters and only walked one. The Rangers' pitching held up late. Jakob Junis threw the final inning and got the save. San Diego couldn't catch up. Final score: Texas 4, San Diego 3. The Rangers improved to 36-39 while the Padres dropped to 39-37.
