Seattle Strikes First in Baltimore
The Seattle Mariners rolled into Oriole Park at Camden Yards looking to keep their winning streak alive. Baltimore came in struggling after losing three straight games. The Orioles needed a spark at home. You could feel the tension right from the start. In the bottom of the third inning, Pete Alonso smacked a sacrifice fly that brought home Blaze Alexander. The score was 1-0, Orioles. But Seattle's bats were ready to answer back. The Mariners had their ace Emerson Hancock on the mound throwing heat. His fastballs looked untouchable early. He struck out three Baltimore hitters through five innings. The early game felt tight, but you knew something big was coming.
Naylor Explodes for Four Runs
Everything changed in the fifth inning. Ryan Bliss hit a sacrifice fly that tied the game 1-1. Then Josh Naylor stepped up to the plate. The Mariners had loaded the bases with some smart base running. Naylor connected on a four-seam fastball from Anthony Nunez and crushed it to right field. The ball rocketed 358 feet into the air. When it landed, Naylor had a grand slam! Jhonny Pereda, Cole Young, and Julio Rodriguez all came racing home. Suddenly it was 5-1, Seattle. The Mariners had flipped the entire game on its head in one swing. Hancock stayed strong on the mound. His strikeouts kept Baltimore's bats quiet. The Mariners looked unstoppable now.
Mariners Hold On for the Win
The seventh inning brought some chaos. Matt Brash came in from the bullpen and threw a wild pitch. Coby Mayo scored on it, and the Orioles cut it to 5-2. Blaze Alexander reached third on the wild pitch too. Baltimore was fighting back. But Seattle's pitchers stayed locked in. In the eighth inning, Randy Arozarena singled to right and Josh Naylor scored, pushing it to 6-2. The Orioles answered back when Alexander singled home Leody Taveras in the bottom of the eighth. The final score was 6-3, Mariners. Seattle improved to 36-32 and kept rolling. Baltimore fell to 31-36 and their losing streak continued. Andres Munoz closed it out perfectly. The Mariners' pitching depth showed up when it mattered most.
