Seattle Shuts Down Detroit Behind Miller's Masterpiece
The Mariners came to Detroit on a roll. They'd won their last game 3-7 the night before and climbed to 34-31. The Tigers were struggling at 26-39, losers in their last outing. At Comerica Park, you could feel the difference in momentum the moment the game started. Bryce Miller took the mound for Seattle and was absolutely dominant. He threw 6 innings of pure brilliance, giving up just 1 hit while striking out 9 batters. The Tigers' bats couldn't find any answers. Detroit's starting pitcher Keider Montero battled hard, but he couldn't keep up with what the Mariners brought. By the final out, Seattle had silenced one of baseball's most powerful lineups, winning 4-0.
Canzone and Arozarena Ignite a Three-Run Second
Everything changed in the second inning. Dominic Canzone stepped up and ripped a double into center field. Randy Arozarena was on base and raced home to make it 1-0. The Tigers' defense had no answer for Seattle's quick strike. Then in the third inning, Arozarena came up again with runners in scoring position. He drove a double down the right field line. Josh Naylor and Julio Rodriguez both sprinted home. Suddenly it was 3-0 and the game was getting away from Detroit fast. The Tigers challenged a call on Arozarena's double but it was ruled good. Detroit couldn't mount any offense against Miller's unhittable pitches. Seattle's bats had taken complete control of the game's story.
Canzone Crushes a Massive Homer to Seal the Victory
The fourth inning brought the final dagger. Dominic Canzone came to the plate once again. Montero delivered a 92 miles per hour fastball right down the middle. Canzone launched it with tremendous force. The ball rocketed 451 feet toward center field and sailed over the wall. The crowd fell silent as the ball disappeared into the night sky. That home run made it 4-0 and officially put the game out of reach. Seattle's bullpen took over from there. Jose Ferrer, Matt Brash, and Gabe Speier combined to shut down the Tigers completely. The final score stood at 4-0. Detroit managed just 2 hits total the entire game. The Mariners improved to 35-31 while the Tigers fell to 26-40. Seattle proved their pitching staff was championship-caliber material.
