Pirates Strike First With Back-to-Back Homers
The Seattle Mariners came into PNC Park trying to bounce back. They had lost the night before, falling 11-1 to Pittsburgh. Now they needed a quick spark against the Pirates' lineup. But that's not what happened. Brandon Lowe crushed the first pitch he saw into right center field. The ball rocketed 391 feet over the wall before anyone could blink. The crowd at PNC Park erupted. Two innings later, Henry Davis stepped up and launched another missile into right center. His blast traveled 390 feet and scored Jared Triolo as well. Just like that, the Pirates had jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Bryce Miller, Seattle's pitcher, was in trouble early. The Mariners needed to answer back fast to stay in this game.
Mariners Cut Into The Deficit In The Fifth
Seattle's bats finally woke up in the fifth inning. Bryce Miller's teammates were ready to help him out. Mitch Garver had worked his way on base. Then J.P. Crawford stepped into the box. He ripped a single to right field. Garver raced around the bases and scored. Colt Emerson moved to third. The Mariners had their first run on the board. It was 1-3, still down two runs, but momentum had shifted slightly. The Mariners' pitching staff remained strong despite the early damage. Julio Rodriguez had stolen a base earlier in the game, showing Seattle's speed game was active. However, they couldn't string together more hits in that inning. Pittsburgh's bullpen held tight. The Mariners still trailed heading into the later innings. They needed a big play to get back into this contest.
Pirates Hold On For Five-Run Victory
The eighth inning brought more trouble for Seattle. Reliever Alex Hoppe took over the mound. He couldn't keep the Pirates down. Brandon Lowe stepped up and singled to center field. Henry Davis scored from second base. The score jumped to 1-4. Then Ryan O'Hearn got a hit to right field. Bryan Reynolds sprinted home from third. O'Hearn's single made it 1-5, and the Pirates' lead was comfortable now. Seattle's pitching had finally cracked under pressure. The Mariners couldn't catch a break when they needed one most. Cal Raleigh and the rest of the lineup went quiet. Pittsburgh's defense held firm. When the final out came, the scoreboard read 5-1, Pirates win. Seattle fell to 41-42 for the season. Pittsburgh improved to 41-41 and moved into second place of the division, winning their second straight game.
