Mariners Strike Early in Thursday Matchup
The Seattle Mariners traveled to San Diego for a Thursday night battle against the Padres at their home stadium. Both teams came in with different stories. Seattle was looking to bounce back after losing their last game four to one, dropping them to eight wins and twelve losses. San Diego, however, was riding high with an eight-game winning streak and a dominant thirteen-six record. The Padres started Randy Vásquez on the mound, while the Mariners countered with Emerson Hancock. When the first inning finished, the scoreboard was blank. However, Seattle came alive in the second inning with explosive hitting that would set the tone for the early game.
Seattle's Bats Explode for Runs and Homers
In the second inning, Canzone stepped up and delivered a clutch double to right field that traveled four hundred twenty-four feet with tremendous velocity. His hit scored both Raley and Arozarena, giving Seattle an early two-nothing lead. The Mariners' momentum continued building in the fourth inning when Donovan singled sharply to right, plating two more runs and extending the lead to four-zero. Then came the most dramatic moment of the early innings. Raley launched a towering home run over right-center field that soared four hundred thirty-four feet into the stands, sending another runner across the plate. After five innings, Seattle had built an impressive six-nothing advantage. San Diego's pitching staff looked overwhelmed by Seattle's aggressive approach at the plate.
Padres Rally Late But Fall Short by One
San Diego finally got on the board in the sixth inning when Bogaerts hammered a home run four hundred eighty-one feet to left-center, scoring Merrill and cutting the deficit to four. However, the Mariners' lead seemed insurmountable at six-zero entering the ninth inning. That's when the Padres unleashed a dramatic comeback attempt. Tatis Jr. provided a sacrifice fly that scored Machado, and Campusano followed with a crucial single. Laureano then singled to left, bringing France across. Merrill delivered the knockout blow with a double that scored two more runs, making it six-seven. Despite their resilience and explosive ninth-inning rally, San Diego fell just one run short. The Mariners held on for the six to seven victory, stopping the Padres' winning streak.
