Mariners Strike Fast at Nationals Park
The Seattle Mariners showed up ready to party at Nationals Park on Friday night. They'd dropped their last two games, but you could feel the energy shift the moment the first pitch flew. Bryce Miller took the mound for Seattle, and the Nationals' offense looked lost against him all night. The game started with a bang in the second inning when Randy Arozarena and Luke Raley scored on a triple by Dominic Canzone. Things got wild fast. Miles Mastrobuoni's sacrifice fly brought Canzone home. Then Colt Emerson crushed a massive home run 407 feet to center field, with Jhonny Pereda scoring ahead of him. Just like that, the Mariners led 5-0 and the game was already getting away from Washington.
Wood and Crews Keep Nationals Alive
Seattle's lead grew in the fifth inning when multiple wild pitches allowed Cole Young to score and helped position other runners. Luke Raley singled to right, driving in both Julio Rodriguez and Victor Robles. The Mariners were crushing the Nationals early, pushing their lead to 8-1. But Washington wasn't completely out of it. James Wood, the Nationals' young star, blasted a 416-foot home run off Miller in the fourth inning, cutting into the lead. Later, Dylan Crews added another solo shot to center field, a monster blast of 440 feet. The Nationals couldn't keep up with Seattle's firepower, but Wood and Crews showed flashes of the power that makes them so dangerous when they connect.
Dominic Canzone's Second Homer Seals the Blowout
The Mariners' bats wouldn't quiet down. In the eighth inning, Dominic Canzone stepped up again and launched his second home run of the night, a 395-foot rocket to right-center field. That made it 9-1 and officially put the game out of reach. Then in the ninth, Josh Naylor added one more nail in the coffin with his own home run to right, pushing Seattle's final total to 10. Bryce Miller was absolutely brilliant on the mound, allowing just four hits and striking out seven batters across eight innings. The Mariners' pitching staff showed exactly why they're one of baseball's deepest rotations. Seattle improved to 36-34 with this dominant road victory, while Washington fell to 35-34. The Nationals' rebuild would have to wait for another day.
