Arizona Dominates Giants in Lopsided Matchup
The San Francisco Giants traveled to Arizona to face the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, May 19. Arizona's pitcher Zac Gallen and the Giants' starter Robbie Ray were supposed to lead an exciting pitching matchup. However, the game did not unfold as fans expected. The Diamondbacks completely dominated from the opening pitch. Arizona jumped ahead early and never looked back, winning decisively 12–2. This loss dropped San Francisco's record to 20–28 after they had roared back with a big 10–1 victory on Sunday. Despite the disappointing result, the Giants' pitching staff would face serious challenges throughout the evening. The game showed that Arizona came prepared and ready to execute their offensive game plan effectively.
Arenado's Grand Slam Ignites Arizona's Offense
Everything changed in the very first inning when Arizona's star Nolan Arenado stepped to the plate. The bases were loaded with runners at first, second, and third. Robbie Ray threw a four-seam fastball at 95 miles per hour, and Arenado connected perfectly. The ball soared 403 feet over the left field wall with an exit velocity of 107 miles per hour. In one massive swing, Arenado crushed a grand slam, scoring himself, Marte, Carroll, and Perdomo. Arizona jumped ahead 4–0 instantly. The Giants answered back briefly when Wander Franco hit a home run in the second inning, making it 4–1. However, Arizona kept pounding the ball. In the third inning, a single by Tawa drove in two more runs, pushing the score to 7–2. The Diamondbacks' bats were absolutely unstoppable from start to finish.
Diamondbacks Explode in Fifth Inning to Seal Victory
Arizona's offensive explosion continued relentlessly in the fifth inning, putting the game completely out of reach. Gabriel Moreno crushed a two-run home run 398 feet to left field with an exit velocity of 106 miles per hour, extending Arizona's lead to 9–2. Moments later, Waldschmidt doubled to left, scoring another run and making it 10–2. Then Marte reached base on an infield single, driving in Waldschmidt for an 11–2 advantage. To cap off the inning, an error by the Giants' shortstop allowed Marte to score, pushing the final margin to 12–2. This dominant fifth-inning performance essentially decided the entire game. By that point, Arizona had already built such a commanding lead that no comeback was possible. The Giants simply could not keep pace with the Diamondbacks' incredible offensive display throughout the evening.
