Arizona's Bats Explode in the First Inning
The Giants came into this game hungry. They lost 5-4 the night before and wanted payback. But Arizona had other plans. The Diamondbacks' lineup came out swinging hard from pitch one. With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. stepped up and crushed a 94-mile-per-hour sinker from Giants pitcher Landen Roupp. The ball flew 389 feet over the left-center wall. Perdomo and Moreno scored ahead of him. Just like that, Arizona led 3-0. San Francisco's pitching staff was already in trouble.
Roupp Struggles While Diamondbacks Keep Scoring
Things got worse for San Francisco in the third inning. Landen Roupp walked Jorge Barrosa with the bases loaded, allowing Moreno to score. Arizona made it 4-0. Then Ketel Marte singled to left, driving in two more runs. The score ballooned to 6-0. The Giants needed something special to get back in this game. In the top of the sixth, Luis Arraez delivered a blast. He drove a 92-mile-per-hour sinker 399 feet to right field for a solo home run. San Francisco finally got on the board at 1-6. But Arizona answered back immediately. Marte crushed another pitch in the bottom of the sixth, this time a 431-foot bomb.
Diamondbacks Run Away Late as Giants Fall Short
Rafael Devers kept fighting for San Francisco. In the seventh inning, he launched a 94-mile-per-hour cutter 424 feet to left-center field for a solo home run. That made it 2-7. Arizona's lead was still huge, though. In the eighth inning, Gabriel Moreno singled to center, scoring Barrosa and extending Arizona's advantage to 8-2. That would be the final score. The Diamondbacks dominated this one from start to finish. San Francisco's pitching couldn't hold up under Arizona's aggressive swinging. The Giants fell to 35-50 on the season. Arizona improved to 43-42, staying in the hunt. Sometimes one team just brings the heat from the opening pitch.
