Ramos and Bericoto launch Giants early
The Giants came into Chase Field looking to bounce back. They'd lost the night before, 8-2, and needed a win badly. Arizona's starter Zac Gallen took the mound in the first inning. Then Heliot Ramos stepped up and crushed the very first pitch. The ball rocketed 427 feet to center field—gone! One pitch, one run. The Giants weren't done. Victor Bericoto came right up and smashed an 87 mph slider deep into left center. That one flew 422 feet and Bericoto's two-run shot made it 3-0 before anyone could breathe. The Giants' bats were absolutely alive. You could feel the energy shift instantly. San Francisco had come to Arizona ready to win this one.
Giants extend lead in the sixth inning
The Giants kept rolling in the sixth inning. Heliot Ramos stepped back up with two outs. He watched a 93 mph fastball come at him. On his eighth pitch of the at-bat, Ramos connected hard. He ripped a triple to center field that flew past everyone. The umpires had to review it, but the call stood. Ramos was on third now. Jung Hoo Lee came up next and singled to right field. Ramos crossed home. The score was now 5-0 Giants. Then Drew Cavanaugh followed with his own single to center. Lee raced home and the Giants stretched their lead to 6-0. Arizona's pitching was crumbling. San Francisco had unleashed a five-run sixth inning that put the game completely out of reach.
Diamondbacks rally late but fall short to Giants
Arizona wouldn't go down without a fight. In the eighth inning, they started chipping away. Pavin Smith lined a single to left and Nolan Arenado scored to make it 6-1. Then Ketel Marte stepped up and drove a slider to left. The ball bounced and shot into the outfield for a double. But then came a throwing error by Giants shortstop Christian Koss. Smith raced home and Marte kept running to third. Troy scored on the error too. Suddenly it was 6-3 with the Diamondbacks climbing back. Corbin Carroll grounded out to first with Marte scoring. The final tally came to 6-4. The Giants held on and earned the win. San Francisco improved to 36-50 while Arizona fell to 43-43.
