Giants and Rockies Battle at Coors Field
The San Francisco Giants arrived in Denver on Saturday needing a win badly. They had lost five straight games and were 22-36 on the season. The Colorado Rockies were on a two-game winning streak and hungry to climb out of their own hole at 22-37. Both teams were fighting for respect. The Giants started strong with their lineup featuring star hitter Rafael Devers and speedy contact master Luis Arraez. Pitcher Logan Webb took the mound for San Francisco, ready to anchor the Giants' pitching staff. The Rockies countered with Michael Lorenzen on the bump. The final score would be Colorado 8, San Francisco 6, and you could feel the drama building from the first pitch at Coors Field.
Webb Holds Ground as Giants Score Early
Logan Webb pitched strong in the early innings, keeping the Rockies' bats quiet. But Colorado struck first when Ezequiel Tovar stole home on a wild play in the second inning. The Giants answered back fast. In the third inning, Willy Adames lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Bryce Eldridge. The score was tied 1-1. Then came the fourth inning magic. Daniel Susac sent another sacrifice fly soaring to center, scoring Matt Chapman to make it 2-1 Giants. Harrison Bader slapped a single to right field that sent Jung Hoo Lee racing home. The Giants were rolling 3-1. Everything felt like it was breaking their way early on.
Rockies Explode Late, Tovar Delivers Twice
The game shifted in the eighth inning when the Rockies woke up their bats. Bryce Eldridge hit another sacrifice fly for the Giants to make it 4-1, but then Ezequiel Tovar crushed a two-run home run 441 feet to center field. The Rockies were back in it at 4-3. The ninth inning became a slugfest. Rafael Devers tripled to right, then Matt Chapman singled him home to make it 5-3 Giants. But the Rockies weren't done. Hunter Goodman smashed a three-run home run 414 feet to left field that tied the game 6-6. Then Tovar struck again with another home run 406 feet to left. Colorado walked away with an 8-6 victory. The Rockies' bats came alive when it mattered most.
