Webb Gets Torched in First Inning
The San Francisco Giants rolled into Denver hoping to bounce back. They'd lost the night before, and now they faced the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The Rockies were on a winning streak. Right away, things fell apart for starter Logan Webb. Jake McCarthy crushed the first pitch of the game—a 440-foot bomb to right-center that shook the stadium. The crowd erupted. Two batters later, Cole Carrigg walked and more runners crossed the plate. By the time the first inning ended, Colorado led 3-0. Webb had given up four runs already. The Giants needed to fight back fast.
Tovar Homers, McCarthy Strikes Again
Inning two brought more pain for the Giants. Ezequiel Tovar stepped up and launched a 392-foot home run into the right-center bleachers. That made it 5-0, Rockies. The Giants got one run back in the third when Casey Schmitt singled and Luis Arraez scored. But the Rockies kept pounding. In the third inning, Jake McCarthy singled and drove in another run. Colorado's bats were on fire. Bryce Eldridge singled for San Francisco in the fourth, scoring Jung Hoo Lee. Still, the damage was done. By the time the fifth inning started, the score was 2-7. The Giants couldn't stop the bleeding.
McCarthy's Grand Slam Ends It
The fifth inning turned into a complete disaster for San Francisco. Matt Gage took over pitching and nothing went right. Jake McCarthy blasted a grand slam—a towering 427-foot rocket to right-center. That one swing brought four runs across the plate and made it 2-11. Cole Carrigg followed with a triple up the middle, and two more runs scored. Freeman singled and one more crossed home. Rafael Devers hit a solo home run in the sixth to make it 3-14, but it was too little too late. In the eighth, Tovar's sacrifice fly brought in one final run. The Rockies demolished the Giants 15-3. San Francisco fell to 36-51. Colorado improved to 36-53 but grabbed their third straight win.
