The Marlins Strike First with a Bang
The Giants rolled into Miami on Friday night looking to keep their winning streak alive. San Francisco had won three straight games coming in, but they were facing a Marlins team that had surged to 37-38 with seven wins in their last ten. The teams met at Miami's home field, and the Marlins wasted no time. In the very first inning, Owen Caissie stepped up to face Landen Roupp. The Giants pitcher threw a 90-mile-per-hour cutter, and Caissie connected perfectly. The ball rocketed over center field and soared 401 feet. One swing, one massive home run, and Miami led 1-0 before the Giants even got their chance to bat.
Giants Claw Back with Big Sixth Inning
San Francisco answered back in the second inning when Daniel Susac hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Willy Adames and tying the game at 1-1. The score stayed locked there until the sixth inning, when the Giants offense exploded. Rafael Devers stepped up against Michael Petersen and crushed a 413-foot home run to right-center. San Francisco took a 2-1 lead. But that wasn't all. Casey Schmitt followed moments later and singled to right, bringing home Jung Hoo Lee. The Giants had scored twice in minutes and grabbed a 3-1 advantage. Miami answered right back in the bottom of the sixth when a double from Caissie scored Javier Sanoja.
Miami Walks Off with Late Heroics
The Giants still led 3-2 heading into the seventh inning, but Miami's bats came alive. Liam Hicks singled to right, and suddenly the bases were loaded with Marlins runners. The Giants brought in relief pitcher Sam Hentges to try to stop the bleeding. Owen Caissie stepped up and hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored another run, tying the game at 3-3. The Marlins had forced a battle. What happened next turned the game around. Miami's bullpen took over and shut down San Francisco's bats completely. The Giants could not score another run. Then Pete Fairbanks came in for his save, and Miami held on. Final score: Marlins 4, Giants 3. Miami improved to 38-38, while San Francisco fell to 31-44.
